Mullah Obaidullah Akhund was the Taliban Defense Minister before their overthrow in 2001, and became a senior figure in the Quetta shura. He was arrested by Pakistan  While he was reported to be in Pakistani detention in February 2008, there are several reports of his repeated detention and release, sometimes in prisoner exchanges.
